May is Arthritis Awareness Month! According to the CDC.gov, "Arthritis is the leading cause of work disability" and "affects one in four adults in the U.S." (over 54 million people.) Treat arthritis by:
  1. Staying physically active. The CDC recommends 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, like brisk walking, and two or more days of muscle strengthening activities each week.

  2. Managing your weight. Being overweight can put strain on your weight-bearing joints (knees, ankle, spine.) According to the CDC, "For every pound lost, there is a 4 pound reduction in the load exerted on the knee."

  3. Following a healthy diet (add turmeric to dishes.) According to healthline.com, "Turmeric contains the chemical, curcumin, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties."

  4. Using hot and cold therapy. Try a heating pad or ice pack to relieve pain.

  5. Relaxing. Be still and enjoy your life.
